GUEST BLOG: Why Advice from Lady Gaga Could Change Your World.

How One Dreamer Found the Courage to Follow Her Dreams

by Joelene Wolfe

Everyone has a purpose on this big crazy planet. You may not have figured out what it is yet but you have one. Trust me.

Once you do start to figure it out though, it is beyond important to go for it.  And I mean go for it with every fiber of your being.  The road to get there may not be all flowers and butterflies but when you reach your destination you will be in your glory.  Trust me on that one too.

You see, I was like so many others. I had a dream from the time I was three.  I wanted to be an actor. Yeah I know there are millions of little girls like me with a dream of being a movie star.  Perhaps I am not all that unique in my dream setting but it was MY dream.

Either way, I didn’t even give it a chance.  I took acting classes here and there as a kid but I pretty much stuffed that dream down because I thought it was unreachable.

Like the Lady Gaga song goes, I could think of a million reasons to walk away from my dream.  Heck, I only needed a few to convince myself I was crazy.

I wound up spending my entire career working in the corporate world.  Deep down inside, though, I knew that it wasn't what I wanted to do.  But who was I to even fathom a change after so many years invested?  I mean that's usually what holds us back – fear.  Right?

At one point in my life I was so miserable that I was trying to convince myself and everyone else that I was happy.  But the person I was fooling the most, was me.  It got to the point that I could barely bring myself to get up in the morning.  Then there was that fateful day when I got laid off from my job.  It was then and there that I decided to go for it.

What the heck would a forty year old unemployed woman who never really acted before have to lose?  That’s a loaded question!!

Do you know what answer I came up with? I had absolutely nothing to lose if I tried.  In fact, I could gain everything I have ever wanted.

I found for me, the less I think about something and the more I just do it, the farther I will get.  So off I went on my merry dream-filled way.  I started taking classes, got headshots done and just started going for it.

I am thrilled to report that I have been acting for several years.  I have been in many commercials, TV shows, films, videos, ads and many other wonderfully gigs.  I have met so many amazing people and at the end of the day I am super proud of myself.  That first baby step led to a life I never thought possible.  In fact, if you would have told me 5 years ago that this is where I would be, I would have thought YOU were crazy.  Yet here I am telling you my story.

On the journey toward our dream life, it may be so much easier to walk away but we truly do just need one good reason to stay!

Decide.  Dream Big.  Stick with it.
